Matteo Thun is an Italian architect and designer, born in Bolzano in 1952. He studied Architecture in Salzburg with Oskar Kokoschka und graduated in Architecture at the University of Florence in 1975. In 1980 he moved to Milan, where he began his cooperation with the group Memphis and with Ettore Sottsass. In 1984 he founded his professional studio Matteo Thun and began working as creative director for Swatch. The art and the design of Matteo Thun are easily recognized in his works, which collect eco-friendly residences in the mountains, as well as 5-stars hotels, products and pieces of furniture. Among his prestigious clients there are Artemide, Illy, Philips, Missoni, Porsche Design, Coca Cola, Campari, Lavazza, Flos, Fontana Arte, Villeroy & Boch. Matteo Thun has won the award Compasso d’Oro for excellence design three times and was introduced in the Hall of Fame in New York in December 2004. For what concerns architecture and interior design, his Side Hotel in Hamburg was selected as Hotel of the Year 2001, the Vigilius Mountain Resort won the Wallpaper Design Award in 2004 and the Radisson SAS of Frankfurt was selected as best open hotel of the year with the Hospitality Worldwide Awards in 2005.
